On Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 10 A.M., at Nash Farm Battlefield in Lovejoy, Georgia, 4000 volunteers in Civil War dress reacted one of the grandest cavalry charges during the Civil War, Kilpatrick’s Raid! This the the raid when the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry and 4000 Union cavalry in total traveled south of Atlanta behind enemy lines to destroy the railroad at Lovejoy Station.

Finding themselves totally surrounded by Confederate forces, their only way out was to charge directly into the Rebels’ line of fire, sabres swinging, hoping to break through to safety. Details on the reenactment are found at the Atlanta Campaign website. If you plan to attend, you should arrive at 9 A.M. when the gates first open.

Another special event for this battle was on August 22-24, 2014 at Nash Farm Battlefield with a dedication of a monument to the fallen dead, and on Sunday at 1 P.M. a recreation of the Sabre Charge.
